McCain as a slimeball politician was evidenced when at the outset of his campaign, following Gubernator Moose Barbie's phenomenal acceptance speech —which was Trumpism avant la lettre— their joint Republican ticket shot way ahead in the polls. But then our moral and intellectual betters instructed McCain to step away from his vehicle, and he never again afterwards was willing to be seen in public again with her. McCain's Last WIll and Testament even specified that Trump was achtung verboten! from attending the upcoming funeral. Google up Palin's presentation at the Rethug convention, worth seeing the whole thing.
Since his funeral was held at the Naval Academy, McCain could not forbid Trump's attendance.
OTOH, McCain expended his entire store of moral authority when he repeatedly lied as a Senator. The man is pure scum and should be removed from the cemetery at the Academy.
In any case I don't believe that Trump attended the funeral, and I doubt whether he knew that the USNA wasn't obligated to exclude him. Regarding your suggested disinterment, we're already way over the top with posthumous cancellations. Also, McCain's piloting an A4 Skyhawk was considerably more dangerous, I'd imagine, than my own MOS as an infantry grunt in more or less the same place at more or less the same time.
McCain's disobedience of orders played a part in his getting shot down. I can't say who ran the bigger risk, you or him. Regardless, McCain's behavior with a faithful wife who waited for him while he was held captive, and as a senator destroyed any possibility of respect for the man on my part. Removing the corpse of such a man from honored ground is not cancellation. He did that himself.
McCain/Trump feud was quite nasty, and certainly didn’t help Trump in Arizona in 2020.

Yet, what I find of interest is how the Trump people are adopting the outlook you see from backers of political dissidents overseas.
Now I don’t really agree he is a political dissident, but I’m very worried that millions will not be satisfied with any outcome that doesn’t have him fully acquitted, and that they see a justice system, which is broken beyond repair and in turn a democratic system, which doesn’t command their allegiance. That’s not a great outcome in the country. We’re neither side seems to be able to master the art of peaceful, civil disobedience.
There is reason to believe McCain was a fraud.

Best short description of the Trump appeal I’ve seen. The Left, elite Dems mostly, is evil AND often stupid. NeverTrumpers deny those truths.
